the fiscal cliff, and achieving t the balance the white house says it wants. i made clear we put real concessions on the line by putting revenues on the table right up front. unfortunately, many democrats continue to rule out sensible spending cuts that must be part of any significant agreement that will reduce our deficit. and mr. bowles himself said there is no serious discussion of spending cuts so far. and unless there is, there is a real danger of going off the fiscal cliff. listen, going off the fiscal cliff will hurt our economy and will cost american jobs. republicans have taken action to avert the fiscal cliff by passing legislation to stop all the tax hikes. to replace the sequester, and pave way for -- pave the way for tax reform and entitlement reform. and we're the only ones with a balanced plan to protect the economy, protect american jobs, and protect the middle class from the fiscal cliff. but without spending cuts and entitlement reforms, it's going to be impossible to address our country's debt crisis. and get our economy going again and to create jobs. so right now,

at the white house at an interesting time. not only are the fiscal cliff talks going on, which mitt romney might have some input on that, but suzanne, as you well know, what is also happening right now, they are getting prepared for the inauguration just outside the grounds of the white house. they're putting up the bleachers for what's happening on january 21st. probably a bittersweet moment for mitt romney as well on that front. >> yeah. that's probably true. let us know what they're serve and if there's anything that comes out of their discussions today. thanks, jim. good to see you, as always. >>> palestinians, they want their own state, of course, and a vote by the u.n. today could actually put them one step closer to getting it. there's big news. presenting androgel 1.62%. both are used to treat men with low testosterone. androgel 1.62% is from the makers of the number one prescribed testosterone replacement therapy. it raises your testosterone levels, and... is concentrated, so you could use less gel. and with androgel 1.62%, you can save on your monthly prescription. , rope-a-dope. where does that leave us after months of hearing about the fiscal cliff, no signs of a compromise plan yet. chief white house correspondent jessica yellin here now. jessica, what happened to all this, hey, willing to work together, let's compromise, let's do what the american people want, we got a couple of days here before we go on vacation? what happened? >> reporter: i don't know. maybe it is always darkest before the dawn? that's the most optimistic way to look at it, i guess. look, the white house would look at it this way or democrats at least, they have been frustrated that they argue that republicans have not come to the table with specifics on how they would raise taxes. the president as you know campaigned on this pledge to raise taxes on the upper income, and they want to hear what republicans are willing to do on that. so they said since the republicans weren't given specifics, okay, the white house went up there, and delivered an opening position, was not written down on paper, not sort of a formal offer, here's what we want, it was a starting position

more than a month away from right now we face this fiscal cliff, maybe mitt romney, who had a lot of great ideas, and in fact, some of the pros coming out of the white house sound a lot of what mitt romney has said in the past. maybe they'll talk about that. it's interesting, yesterday the president did appear before some small business leaders and essentially this is what he's suggesting to congress: accept tax hikes right now and we will work on a bigger deal later. so let's do the tax hikes right now and do the deal later. what do you think about that? here is the president. >> families and small businesses would therefore be able to enjoy some peace of mind heading into christmas and heading into the new year. and it would give us more time then next year to work together on a comprehensive plan to bring down our deficits, streamline our tax system, to do it in a balanced way. including asking the wealthiest americans to pay a little more so that we can still invest in things like education and training and science and research. >> brian: so he is still politicking. and he is
